Review highlights
Based on 503 reviewsKitanoya is consistently praised for its homestyle Japanese set meals and generous portion sizes, offering affordable and satisfying options in a busy market area of Osaka. The restaurant’s menu features well-liked dishes such as karaage chicken teishoku, steak rice bowls, and salmon rice bowls with flavorful accompaniments, highlighting a balance of taste and value. Reviewers commonly note the welcoming and friendly staff, creating a comfortable atmosphere even for foreign visitors. Some feedback mentions limited seating space and slightly cramped conditions, suggesting counter seating as a better alternative for larger guests. Overall, Kitanoya is regarded as a reliable choice for a simple, hearty lunch that avoids tourist traps while delivering consistently good food and attentive service in a nostalgic district setting.
Tucked away in one of the nolstagic alleys in Shinsekai, Kitanoya's speciality is their karage chicken teishoku (set meals). The sets were reasonably priced, generous portions, and reminded me of home-style cooking. The salmon rice bowl with seaweed was particularly enjoyable. The meal was also accompanied with different sauces and mayonnaise to experiment with. Seating was a bit cramped, so it's not a place to enjoy a leisurely slow meal. Potential diners should also be prepared to queue for a table, even after the peak lunch period.
Really nice place next to all the touristic places. Affordable food, great taste , not a tourist trap. The steak rice bowl and fried yuzu chicken were delicious. I’ll come here often
Its delicious (oishii).. good meal and the serving is great size
Decent restaurant with reasonable price Everything in this market area is expensive for no reason but this place was ok. I ordered Katsudon which was taste pretty good with extra soy sauce. Karage was bit dry.. table is very small just sit at the counter if you are big. staffs are all very friendly and I felt welcomed as a foreigner. Definitely recommend this place for a simple lunch :)
I love this place. Had amazing meal for very affordable price. I don't mind going back many time. Nice staff nice food nice price. What more can you ask. Thank youuuu . Best in the area
Lovely place that serves yummy fried chicken, oyster and shrimps at reasonably priced rate. Service crew speaks English too! But prepare to wait as their seats are limited! Go early as by time we reached., the pork Cutlet rice was sold out.
Good find in Shinsekai area. A few steps from our hotel, Hotel Wing. Ordered the salmon avocado & fried chicken, non-alcoholic honey & lemon sour, and steak. Salmon tasted really good with the avocado and nori rice. It took 45mins for the steak though. Restaurant could be cleaner, but would recommend over all. Thanks for the meal!
